Lani has lived in Hana, Hawaii for five years. She’s learned to surf, fish, dive, and manage her grandmother’s bed and breakfast. She’s also learned to take one day at a time the way it should be taken—relaxed and unrushed, savoring every moment.

But, like a large wave on the brink of breaking, her life is about to crash out of control. A proposal of marriage, a conniving grandmother, a cryptic Asian woman, and a handsome guest, and suddenly everything calm begins to churn, everything clear becomes confused, and all that was normal segues into peculiar.

As Lani struggles against the current to hold her ground, she realizes that she can either continue to fight and eventually lose, or take a take a leap of faith, hold her breath, and ride the wave wherever it takes her.

Although part of the POWER OF THE MATCHMAKER series, a multi-author project featuring the recurring character of Pearl the matchmaker, this book is a STAND-ALONE novel.

  1. It took me a while to get into this book since I didn’t quite get the main characters’ motivations when it came to the way they had strung people along in relationships… but by the epilogue I was a wee bit teary so I have to say they grew on me 🙂 Something I loved about Lani was that even though she was attracted to Easton, she called him on his crap and showed him how important it was to her to just be real. Easton is a charmer for sure, one of those guys you can’t help but like. The thoughts and emotions of Lani and Easton felt realistic as they navigated the territory of friends with undeniable chemistry, who have agreed to be just friends, because to be more than friends would inevitably lead to heartbreak (or so they think). Their dilemma created plenty of romantic tension in a setting that is on my bucket list to visit- Maui, Hawaii! I loved the descriptions of the landscape, the hike off the beaten path, the surf session, and the culture.

I’m loving the Power of the Matchmaker series! I have never been to Hawaii, and the setting in this story makes me really want to visit! Such beautiful descriptions of the island and the local culture. I loved the two main characters — they were both fighting their attraction at first and determined to overcome it (ha!). Great banter and dialogue. I also liked that there was an element of mystery to Easton’s background and reason for being in Hawaii. Loved the ending – it was just perfect!

This book was so cute! I felt a serious connection with all the characters. The writing was fabulous as usual. I loved how perfectly matched Lani and Easton were. They seemed to just fit together like a puzzle piece. This book has definitely made it onto my “Re-read until I die” list. So adorable. Great story, great writing, great characters. It was pretty much perfection.

This is the second book in the Power of the Matchmaker series. I’m really enjoying this series! Pearl, the matchmaker, appears in each book, but the books themselves stand alone. Pearl was in this book until almost the end. She was able to give sound advice at pivotal moments for the characters. I love her!

Lani came to Hawaii to help with her grandma’s Bed and Breakfast. She fell in love with the land and the people, so when her long time boyfriend asks her to marry him and move back to California, she is torn. Then Easton comes to the B&B for the summer. Easton travels the globe, and finds a woman in each place to date while there, and then leaves them. But he is drawn to Lani in a way he has never experienced.

Lani was so loving and kind. I really liked the relationship she had with the friends she had made in Hawaii. She was very giving and loyal. I loved the relationship she had with her grandma. They were so close. Lani was such a good person, and I could only root for her from the very beginning. I wanted her to be happy.

My feelings toward Easton didn’t start out quite as good. I didn’t like his love ‘em and leave ‘em life style, even if the girl did know it was temporary. Over time my feelings toward him began to change. His relationship with his family and obvious love for them was one of the reasons. He was also kind and always willing to help, in any situation. I liked seeing his feelings towards Lani change and deepen. And by the end, I really liked Easton and loved the way the story ended.

I have enjoyed every book I’ve read by Rachael Anderson. This is another great one! It has great characters, great dialog, a great setting and a great story.

I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series!

I was given a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
