Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.

Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

I stayed up until dawn reading The Host. The story world was interesting and the characters made me care. I personally like Twilight better, but I still really, really liked The Host.

The very first page of the book pulled me into the incredible story. I was unable to go on with my real life until I had finished with Wander’s and Melanie’s. I am not a science fiction fan but this book is a LOVE story as it explores so many different kinds of love. The Twighlight books are great but the Host is unforgetable.

Took a long time to get started and some of the early chapters were not my favorite style but after about 150 pgs. I couldn’t put it down. How refreshing to read about a character you could actually like. Way better than the Twilight Saga.

At first, I was really creeped out from the cover of the book that it took me months to even get it. Something about that eye made me think I might have nightmares if I looked at it and especially if I just so happen read it! Finally, I gave in because of my ever growing love for Stephenie Meyer and her Twilight series that I had to give it a chance. I struggled with it at first (only because Edward wasn’t in it) but then by page 20 I was Hooked! My mother and I really enjoy supernatural “stuff” anyway so this was a very intense/fun read.

    Wanderer is a “cool” name.
This is an excellent book, I have read it more than once just for the adventure of the storyline, just to be in their world for a moment. Stephenie does a spectacular job with this, I hope she keeps writing!

I think this book should win the Best Speculative Fiction Whitney Award because of the way Meyers showed the human spirit. We can be very strong and will fight for our souls.

I think this book should win the speculative fiction category because the story had so many interesting concepts of our world behind changed by the “souls”. I loved how Melanie fought against Wanda invading her body, and how their relationship grew throughout the story. Overall, it was a very interesting take on “body snatchers”, and I think Meyer did a very good job with it. I will say I like the Twilight Series better though.;)
