Josi S. Kilpack began writing her first novel in 1998 and never stopped. She is best known for her popular Sadie Hoffmiller Culinary Mystery Series. She also writes Romance and Women’s Fiction and is one of the authors of the Newport Ladies Book Club Series.
This was a lovely, lyrical slow-burning romance. I knew basically what was going to happen, but I still couldn’t wait to find out how it happened. I loved Walter Scott’s romantic views, and the way those views changed as he matured.
I really enjoyed this story. I thought the author did a great job of staying true to the facts while fleshing it out with fiction and I was really interested to read the chapter notes in the back to figure out which details were true or not. I really liked seeing the first love versus best love aspect play out and I’m so glad he found Charlotte (whom I loved) because I thought they were a great couple. I also loved the Scottish setting and the taste of their culture (and how that culture interacted with cultures stemming from other countries).
Very beautiful and realistic novel of the love story of poet Sir Walter Scott. I am currently rereading for a local book club!
I enjoyed this book. I was especially grateful to have the notes at the end to distinguish between fact and fiction. It made me interested to learn more about his life and try to discover some of his works. I’m not really into poetry so I’ve never really read Scott’s stuff before. But now I want to read at least Lady of the Lake. I had no idea why he had been knighted so that was interesting to learn as well.
