Simon Kingsley is in desperate need of a wife. After years of searching, he finally found love. Unfortunately, she wed another, and now, it is time to settle for someone with whom he can share his life. A friend, a companion, a helpmate. Love is no longer an option for a man whose heart is irrevocably broken.

Mina Ashbrook longs for a loving marriage but accepts that at the age of thirty, she is unlikely to find it. Facing a lifetime of being the spinster sister living on her brother’s charity, Mina considers something she never thought she would—a marriage of convenience. She knows Simon is not marrying her for love but hopes it will blossom in his heart if only she can convince him that love comes in many forms.

Will Mina find a way to heal Simon’s heart? Or will the shadows of the past keep them from finding happiness together?

Rating: Mild+. Mild kissing; mild sensuality.

About M.A. Nichols

M.A. Nichols

M.A. Nichols is a lifelong Alaskan. As a child she despised reading but through her mother’s persistence was taught the error of her way. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in landscape management from Brigham Young University and a master’s in landscape architecture from Utah State University, neither of which has anything to do with why she became a writer, but is a fun little tidbit nonetheless.

This has been on my TBR pile since I won it in a giveaway and I finally had a chance to read it. I enjoyed reading it though the hero’s behavior made me cringe for a good part of the book. Dumb dude. I’d probably have been more upset except I previously read the book about their daughter so I knew what was coming. I just didn’t know exactly how it would happen or how bad it would be. I liked Mina, though I often wished she could stand up for herself better. And eventually Simon begins to see how dumb he is and gets better so he turned out okay too.

The villain is a horrible person as are the villain-ettes who show up under the guise of family. Ugh. They were all horrible. But I loved everyone who was supportive of Mina. All good people.

I’d call the book clean but there is an undercurrent of inappropriate behavior which is the conflict in the story. We are aware that people are committing adultery but we don’t ever see it. We just have to witness the seduction that has blinded Simon so thoroughly. Like I said, dumb dude.

    Sex: innuendo
    Language: no
Violence: a little, but it was probably well deserved
*I won this book in a giveaway and voluntarily chose to review it.
