Every year thousands of teens apply for neuroenhancement—or acceleration. A select few are chosen. With superhuman abilities to learn and analyze information, these accelerants are sought after by government and business leaders around the world. But there’s a catch. Acceleration causes brain damage, and the teens will have to pay the ultimate price for their extraordinary gift. Within twenty years, every one of them will be dead.

Sixteen-year-old Ami Evans and three other military cadets are given a six-month assignment to monitor the newest accelerants at Masalex in Boulder, Colorado. Their goal is to discover everything they can about the acceleration program, and Ami is not happy about it. She’s convinced the program is seriously flawed and has no respect for the hyper-manic robots who hotwire their brains with drugs. The last thing she would ever do is become one of them.

Chaos erupts on the day the cadets arrive at the Masalex acceleration facility. Within hours one of the new subjects dies, and one of the accelerants, Rayne Garrett, recruits Ami to find the killer. But Rayne has powerful secrets of his own that put them all in danger. The cadets suspect they’ve been specifically targeted as they’re thrust into a deadly conspiracy, not knowing who they can trust or if any of them will make it out alive. At the same time, Ami discovers that the hardest person to trust may be herself. Who’s killing the accelerants? What’s their motive? Can she solve the puzzle before the killer strikes again?
