Spinster is as spinster does…

Georgiana Allen is a spinster and everybody knows it. She also happens to be one of the writers for the Spinster Chronicles, and everybody knows that as well. She’s accepted her lot in life, and, along with the other spinsters in her circle, takes great pride in the articles she writes and the influence she has. Then Captain Anthony Sterling infiltrates their group, and her life, and Georgie impossibly begins to hope once more.

Tony Sterling had no idea what to expect when he agreed to break up the Spinsters for his cousin, but he certainly did not expect Georgie Allen. From the very first meeting, she upends everything he thought a spinster would be, and her beauty and wit keeps him on edge in thrilling ways. The more he gets to know the Spinsters, the less he wants to break them up. And the more he wants Georgie in his life. Permanently.

This story wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but I enjoyed it. I thought it would be a lot more Spinsters with a capital S intervening to keep naive young ladies safe from rakes, and manipulating positive relationships (as they did with Georgie and Tony in the end) etc but as it turned out the Spinsters hadn’t really done nearly as much as the rumors claimed. Kinda disappointing to me. I wanted to spend more time seeing them in action. I thought the premise of the book was rather clever though and I would enjoy reading more about these ladies. I also would have enjoyed Hugh getting a bit of a taking down.

I LOVED Tony. I loved that he gave these ladies a fair shake and as he really looked at these women he could see their good qualities and wondered how they weren’t already married. Plus he was truly a gentleman. And he could hold his own with Georgie. I thought some of their conversations were odd as they were stealing kisses that were much more than a peck and then courting but then Georgie was talking about her future if she never married. It sounded like she was hinting that he should ask her and yet that didn’t seem to come up. Struck me as odd.

Georgie I liked until she threw her tantrum and broke off the engagement. There needed to be some kind of conflict in their relationship but I wanted her to just stand there and fight it out with Tony instead of running off. And I wanted Tony to go after her instead of giving up right there. But nope. They had to prolong their agony. However it did give their friends the opportunity to have the intervention.

I think my favorite thing about this group of spinsters was in the dialogue when they would respond to something in unison. It showed how well they knew each other. I love their devotion to each other. They were a wonderful support system to each other.
