Deathly afraid of intimate relationships, Farmer Og cannot bring himself to court the woman he loves. When he admits to a passing psychiatrist that he saw an elf, the psychiatrist tells him it is actually his inner child trying to help him get married. “Listen to it,” he says.
After the psychiatrist leaves, townspeople twist his advice for their own amusement. Og’s sincerity at wanting to change projects him through misadventures until he prevails.
This is also an allegory of counseling.

John Leslie Hart began writing books as a teen, but when he read his first efforts to a class, they laughed at the word, “lad.” Now, several books later, he never uses the word “lad.” He graduated from Weber State College in psychology. On graduation day he took off to Los Angeles to be a newspaper reporter and photographer. Moving back to Utah he spent thirty years writing for the Church News.
