  1. This is a lovely collection of holiday Regency novellas! It definitely put me in the holiday spirit, and it was fascinating to learn some of the traditions of the era for celebrating Christmas. There’s something special and even magical about the Christmas season and I think it enhances the connections and emotions of the characters. The romance in each story is sweet and even though the couples had various obstacles to overcome (some with excessive angst), the happy endings left me with a smile on my face. I’m a fan of Jennifer Moore and Chalon Linton, and was excited to read two new-to-me authors. I’m looking forward to reading more of their other books.

This was a fast moving love story. The story was over the course of one week so yes. Fast. But it worked for me. I liked both main characters as well as the children in the story. I think it is sometimes difficult to write a short story that deals so much with grief and this author successfully did it.

I liked the main characters of this story but not the method of courting. I think it was just plain mean. Was her family aware from the start? Surely her father must have known as Christopher would have asked her father’s permission. I think at least he should have given her some kind of hint rather than just standing back and smiling. It wasn’t something to smile about. It made it harder for me to like the story overall.

This story elicited strong emotions from me. I was so mad. It showed quite clearly how unfair regency society was toward women. Unscrupulous men could ruin someone’s life and society blamed her. I was so wrapped up in my emotions that it made it difficult to like Patrick as a character. Why was he so judgmental and unforgiving? I was so mad at him that I didn’t want Alice to forgive him so quickly. Not sure how many times I called him a jerk while I was reading. I was also angry at Alice’s brother and father for not helping her more. Women had such little power and had to depend on the men in their lives so much. When they fail, it is maddening. It ends in a happily ever after of course but I was still feeling disgruntled by the unfairness of the situation.

Second Chance Christmas by Heidi Kimball
This story made me sad for Gerard. Poor man trying to deal with the rejection of the woman he loved for years is asked by her to stay her best friend. Francie is naive in so many ways. I liked both of them but felt their pain. It had a satisfying HEA ending though.
