When Willy Gilbert is accused of murder and Lady Vawdrey’s diamond necklace is stolen, he jumps at the chance to help them.

As the two cases merge, however, Trev finds an unlikely ally in Miss Desdemona Woodmansey. She’s the only young lady who doesn’t seem put off by his scar and the scandal of the duel. But as their investigation into the murder reveals just how treacherous the mask of polite society can be, both Trev and Desdemona are placed in grave danger. Song Breaker by Annette Lyon

Song Breaker by Annette LyonPrize Format: eBook

To Aino, the idea of spending her life warming the bed of a wrinkled old man—especially when it means life without her secretly betrothed love—is horrifying. But that is the future awaiting her because of her brother.

Jouko foolishly dueled Vane, the greatest wizard ever known, only to find himself on the verge of death. He saved himself only by promising his sister as the old man’s trophy.

Aino refuses to be forced into marrying anyone, but with only two days until the wizard comes for her, she must find a way to break the curse, or she’ll end up his prisoner. She uncovers a possible solution, but while it may technically free her from the old man, her escape could mean exchanging one kind of prison for another.

Wolf’s Pawn by Chaaya Chandra

Wolf's Pawn by Chaava ChandraPrize Format: eBook

Twenty-five hundred years ago, two human armies marched into the jungle to claim a mineral rich area. On the dawn of the day that was to be their first meeting in battle, both sides awoke from a magical sleep that transformed them into wolf-folk. The two sides fled the area and attempted to return to their own countries, only to be rejected by their kin and forced to flee back to the jungle.

Since that time, the wolf-like vykati of the world of Terah have endured the fear and superstition of the human lands around them, including many attempts at exterminating them completely. Their current leader, Benayle Ramisa, wants to change that as does the daughter of a national hero, Sajani Adida. It’s not an easy task, as the animosity between the races is mutual.

When elves invade the Eastern Continent and quickly conquer the strong human nation of Zenache, Sajani resigns her post as Minister of War to become a privateer, while Benayle opens new diplomatic ties and attempts to forge alliances. Erstwhile enemies slowly and hesitantly begin to come together to face the new threat. The elves, however, appear unstoppable, with a technology level much higher than the natives. Fighting them will take something other than military power: it will take the patience and cunning of a wolf and the filial strength and coordination of the pack.

I enjoyed “Summer House Party” by Regina Scott, Donna Hatch, and Sarah M. Eden. This is a compilation of three stories, one by each author, that take place at a Regency House Party. The characters are faced with deciding what is the best choice to make that is fair for everyone. Don’t miss it!
