This story deals with making sure one has no regrets in life. It is the teammates way of dealing with their grief over losing their friend and mentor. But DJ has regrets and needs to make things right. I love that he was willing to do so and able to let go of his anger and sorrow. And instead of just making things right with his father, he was able to make things right with Aspen, his nephew, his deceased brother and really with himself.
A lot of the book is dealing with difficult topics like grief and forgiveness but also dealing with Alzheimer’s which is a horrible disease.
I was a little conflicted over the Alzheimer’s aspect. Some of what happens in the book is not what I experienced with my mother and I’m left wondering if it is the case with other people. I never heard my mother talk in terms of “how long have I been gone” type statements or questions. I saw her come back to reality at various points but I don’t think she was that cognizant of ever not being in reality to wonder such things. Perhaps earlier in the stages of the disease? I wasn’t around my mom so much in those stages as I was in the later parts. And maybe people just have different experiences and my mom’s was just different than that which was depicted in the book. One thing I do know though is that we cherished those moments of clarity when they came just as DJ, Aspen and Travis did.
I love second chance romance stories. There is just something so satisfying with having everything turn out right in the end even if it has been ten years as is the case in this story. I liked the characters and wanted everything to turn out well for each of them.
There are multiple religious references in the book but not too many.

    No sex, language or violence
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
