The heart is deceitful above all things. Who can understand it?

When Juliana Issot’s godmother invites her to spend the month of Christmas at a house party in Yorkshire, Juliana feels compelled by affection to accept. Never mind that she escaped Yorkshire at first chance to secure a more glittering match in London and that the only matrimonial prospect back homeis her childhood playmate, Willelm.

Willelm Armitage is a born-and-bred Yorkshireman, and as far as he is concerned, Juliana belongs here, too—here at his side. However, the one time he dared to convince her of this, she speedily gave him the right-about, making him question whether she truly is the right choice for him. After all, if she cannot see how well they suit, why should he force her hand ?

A Christmas house party with pudding, games, charades, riding, and carols turns out to be just the thing to remind Juliana of how much she loves Yorkshire. But when her nostalgia slips into love, will she be able to admit that Willelm knows the longings of her heart better than she knows her own?

Rating: Mild. Mild kissing.

Let me start by saying that I was really excited to get to listen to this audiobook because I ADORE Stevie Zimmerman as a narrator. She is great! Definite 10 star narration.

But now to the book. It is only November but I’ve been craving Christmas stories so I was excited for this book for that reason too. And I have enjoyed the matchmaking matrons in this series. It was fun to read more about the Christmas traditions celebrated during this time period. I love the idea of welcoming the new year and seeing the old out the door. A fresh start indeed.

And speaking of matchmakers, Willelm is quite the matchmaker himself. It kind of cracked me up. I love that Willelm is able to speak his mind so bluntly and is a little awkward. Juliana seemed to do a bit of growing up through the course of the book. And she became quite bold in expressing her changed feelings. Drives me a little crazy when both characters wait around for the other to be bold. And my fav part of the book was the proposal. So sweet.

This is a slow burn second chance romance. Willelm has been on slow burn for a long time really. Juliana’s Godmother can proudly say, “I love it when a plan comes together”.

    Also, I loved the cover.

    No sex, language or violence
*I received a complimentary audiobook and voluntarily chose to review it.
