I was asked to read and review the book, so I figured why not? First I was drawn in by the beautiful cover art on the book – hey I like art, then I was captivated the moment I first started reading the book. The artist depicts each character so well and the scenery and what’s going around the characters, that I felt almost as if I were a part of the story or watching a movie unfold before my eyes.
The main characters’ romance and entrance into Ethos painted a picture in my mind of a similar spender from the glowing hues in the movie Avatar, and their forbidden romance had a certain familiarity and suspense, like that of Superman and Lois Lane; Brianna, is seen as a naive and innocent girl who blossoms into a strong and confident woman, and Kalen, a fierce warrior (reminded me of Nephi going through the wilderness) determined to continue in righteous, honor and duty, finds himself falling in love with Brianna (who’s love grows for him early in the book) and struggles with his oath of celibacy as a warrior and is determined to stay pure for his promised future bride once his mission is complete. The history and description of Elette, the villain, gave me a deep look into her persona – rather than just leaving a shadowy two dimensional figure in the background; I felt like I knew her and why she was so bad, where she came from, and because of that history gave way to an even more creepy and believable persona in the character; even more so, that she was once good and had fallen like King David (From his righteousness slaying Goliath to his fall later in life through carnal sin). There are various other amazing creatures and characters that caught my attention and imagination as well, and their journey will keep you reading on in suspense, wonder, and amazement.
I am impressed in this work; so much so, I just couldn’t put it down. I even read it to my kids, and they loved it. This is a MUST READ for any age group. It has elements of suspense, romance, action, adventure, and fantasy. I definitely recommend this book and hope it makes it to the box office – I’ll watch the movie “Ethos”! Waiting for the next book too!
