I loved Grant in this book. He is so patient and a great dad. Unfortunately, he has to exercise that patience regularly with his horrific ex-wife since they have a child. And I liked Maurie. She has over come a horrible past to be a productive member of society and a good person but still struggles with her childhood neglect. I think the struggle made her a more realistic character. This is a second chance romance in that they knew each other as teens though they never dated and I’m not sure that they actually spoke to each other but both had a crush on the other. Frankly, I can see why Maurie was attracted to Grant since he would come and do yard work when her mother wasn’t there and was obviously a caring person but I’m not quite sure why Grant was attracted to Maurie other than to feel sorry for her. He noticed her sitting on her porch watching other kids coming home from school but is that enough to cause a crush that would last through the years? I had a little harder time accepting the quick relationship for that reason.

Grant’s son is adorable and I was glad we got to see him as much as we did. Taffy was a great friend and has a fun personality. She was pretty hilarious and I wonder if she gets her own book. Grant’s family was very supportive of him so we see a huge contrast in his and Maurie’s upbringing and family life.

The premise of this book is good and had the makings for a great story. So why only three stars? I guess I’m just too much of an old prude lady but it was all the kissing that was a problem for me. I felt like Grant and Maurie spent most of their time in a developing relationship where they hardly know each other, ogling and kissing. There is more to having a lasting relationship than that and I wasn’t seeing enough of what would make theirs last. The book I read just prior to this one had a couple in it that were kissy face and made snuggle bunny comments all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. All the other characters (and the reader) spent all their time rolling their eyes and making snide comments under their breath. It was too much. (The author purposely wrote them that way). That is how I began to feel every time Grant and Maurie began staring at body shape or kissing each other. Enough all ready. It was too much. Eventually I just started skimming those parts. And when I have to skim a book it loses points with me. So that was my problem with this book.

Sex: lots of kissing and checking out body shape. References to people living together, premarital pregnancy and innuendo.
    Language: a little-mild
Violence: flashback to seeing argument with throwing things and male threatening female.

Prior to the beginning of the book, Maurie lives with her drug addicted mother so there are references to her mom having parties and men staying over etc. Nothing graphic.

I loved this book!! Maurie is absolutely amazing! Her life growing up was beyond difficult, but she worked hard and became a strong, successful woman. She is so inspirational! Grant is dealing with difficulties in his own life. He is an incredible, loving dad. They are both kind, caring people that deserved to find happiness. I fell in love with both of them! Their connection from the past added so much to the story. And their present day chemistry was off the charts! I also loved Trent! He is adorable!!

I received a complimentary copy of the book, which I voluntarily reviewed. I have given my honest opinion.

  3. 4 Stars!
Let’s Begin Again was such a cute story about moving on, finding closure, and living a wonderful life even when you had a troubled childhood. Maurie moves back to her childhood home in Pine Valley, after having a tough childhood, and opens up a giftbox shop. When she gets there she calls a local construction company to help her remodel the home, but she doesn’t expect to actually know the man who shows up at her door.

I was beyond excited to be able to read about Grant and hear more about his story, it got me so intrigued from past books that gently referenced his marriage ending, so having a book that goes into more detail was wonderful. This story was such a beautiful addition to the Pine Valley series. Only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5 was because I felt it was unfinished. There was a lot of buildup with certain events (I don’t want to say much and give things away) but I felt that certain situations involving Joy, Trent, Grant, and Maurie were unfinished and I would have enjoyed more explanation as to what happened after.

The store sounded so lovely and it got me wishing I could visit “Every Occasion” in person and order fun gift baskets for all of my friends and family. I recommend that you read Let’s Begin Again, but just prepared that you may be left with questions (that I do hope somehow get answered in future books maybe?).
