Can two people learn to trust again, to make their marriage of convenience into a love match?

With university behind him, Lord Gerard Morrow, the Earl of Norham, is preparing for a grand tour to the future with a fellow time traveler. His first night home, he receives a summons from his father the Duke of Kyloe to come to Scotland or their family will be ruined.

Lady Layla Colvin is roused from her sleep to marry the duke’s son as part of settling a gambling debt. Everything she has looked forward to vanishes with the words “I will.” She will never have a come-out, or a suitor, or a wedding dress—and apparently not a husband either.

When Gerard walks back into her life, she runs the other way. Can she trust a man who abandoned her immediately after the vows were said or will they lead separate lives?

The Twickenham Time Travel Romance series is by multiple authors. The individual books may be read in any order.

I have enjoyed the idea of the Twickenham time travel books overall. This one almost felt like the time travel element was inconsequential except that Gerard being gone longer than his intent was essential to the plot and I’m not sure how else it could have been done unless he was shipwrecked or something. But in that case he would likely have been assumed dead which would introduce a whole different aspect to the plot. Anyway, I liked that once Gerard made the decision about the person he not only needed but also wanted to be, that he did everything he could to make it happen. He actually wanted to make Layla happy and to let her have all the things she missed out on due to the unusual circumstances of their marriage.

The story was both an arranged marriage of convenience as well as a second chance romance. And the title of the book tells you how their marriage feels by the time they make their relationship public.

I would have loved an epilogue to the book. Perhaps when they go back to the full moon ball or even farther into the future with children or something. Just something to make the end feel more finished.
