Eliinka, a young, orphaned harp player, was born with the gift of influencing people with her music. But in her home country of Pelto, she’s forced to hide her ability to avoid persecution from government authorities. When she contracts to work for Jereni, a woman from the neighboring country with whom Pelto has been an enemy for 1000 years, she makes a perilous crossing to Viru.

Upon arrival, she discovers she can’t understand the language and faces culture shock. But Eliinka is thrilled to discover she has the chance to have harp lessons from Jereni and fulfil her mother’s dream to become a master musician. As she adjusts to a new life and learns the language, she must choose whether or not to use her musical gift as she faces political intrigue and an arranged marriage. Eliinka’s choices backfire and push the two countries close to another war.

In time, she discovers she’s not the only one who keeps secrets. She still doesn’t know the truth about a powerful legend, and the part she plays is larger than she realizes. While she works toward a treaty, she struggles with an impossible desire to live in a place where she belongs, a place that can be her true home.

Her only hope of peace is to make the crossing again, but if she goes, she will risk all she loves. If she fails, her homeland of Pelto will be destroyed. Can Eliinka use her musical gift to bring peace to Pelto and Viru while protecting the people she loves?
